Farview Overview PDF Print E-mail
Fairview ClipartFarview is an application of existing off-the-shelf technology that has been configured to extend your presence as far as the web can reach. Using state of the art video technology and internet software applications Farview is as close as you can get to being in two places at once. Farview is not just a set of equipment and software, rather it is a comprehensive service that can be adapted to the needs of any project - big or small.

While the intricacies of how Farview works is a trade secret, the methodlogy is simple.  Farview starts with a Field Deployable Unit (FDU) consisting of a mutliplexing Digital Video Recording (DVR) system with a up to sixteen channels of video input, up to four channels of audio input, secure internet broadcasting capabilities, and a voice over IP communication system.  With a Farview FDU you can view, record and broadcast anything you can put a camera on locally, onsight, anywhere.

Farview continues with a Remove Viewing Unit (RVU) that can be set up anywhere you need it to be.  The RVU can be any computer with an internet connectionset up at the location of your choice.  By securely connecting to the FDU through the internet, you can see everything that our onsight Farview team can see and communicate with them via voice over IP communications.  With the RVU you can also record locally to the unit's internal hard drive, an external hard drive and archive it all to any form of media available.

By leveraging existing, non-proprietary hardware, the Farview FDU can accept video input from almost any type of camera: standard personal cam-corders, fixed zoom cameras, infrared cameras - hardwired or wireless.  The FDU and RVU can use the existing LAN set-up of their relative locations or can be configured with a custom LAN set-up using wireless broadband technology.

Farview can be configured in any configuration to fit your unique project requirements. A few applications of Farview are:
  • Factory witness testing of equipment for construction projects
  • Monitoring of construction activities
  • Monitoring of equipment operating sequences
  • Monitoring of process operating sequences
  • Remote presentation of products
  • Remote troubleshooting
  • Remote training
Factory witness testing is a prime example of where Farview can extend your reach. In most instances, when factory witness testing is required, companies will send their technical and engineering staff to the manufacturer’s location. This can impact the company by limiting the accessibility to these personnel for sometimes a week at a time, and in some cases the “right” person to send is not available for that length of time and a “warm body” is sent to have a presence.

By using Farview the company can send only one possibly junior staff member, or in some cases no one at all.  The Farview FDU can be set up at the remote location, to view the overall lineup, with individual cameras assigned to specific components or test equipment and handheld units for close up or detailed inspection. Once the FDU is set up and the equipment is ready for testing at specific time, the RVU is set up in the company’s conference room, if desired using a projector. This will allow as many of the “right” people as necessary to spend a few hours in the conference room interacting with activities at the remote location in real time.

In the conference room, the RVU will allow the audience to select the camera views they need, direct close in shots and record the views and activities they choose during the testing.  Remotely at the FDU, the entire duration of the tests with all views can be recorded for later reference, or individual steps and sequences can be recorded.  This digital recording can document the activities accurately and eliminates the need for relying on notes or the need to remember the exact sequence of what happened when.

This is just one example of the benefits of using Farview. The rest is limited only by your imagination.
